This Damage & Deposit Assessment Policy (“Policy”) forms part of the Rental Terms, Terms of Service, and related policies of the CostumePeti Platform Network.
This Policy applies to rentals facilitated through:
- CostumePeti
- Vault.Fashion
- Vault Wedding
- Vault Luxury
1. Purpose
Security deposits help secure against:
- Damage
- Loss
- Excessive cleaning
- Late return risk
- Missing components
- Contract breach
Deposits are not a fee and may be refunded fully or partially subject to inspection outcomes.
2. Inspection Framework
Returned items may undergo inspection:
- At pickup
- At warehouse intake
- At processing/QC
- Via photographic documentation
- Through authorized repair/vendor review
- Via AI-assisted inspection systems where used
Inspection may include:
- Garment/fabric condition
- Accessories/components check
- Structural integrity review
- Stain and contamination review
- Alteration detection
- Packaging completeness
Inspection findings may be documented through photographs, notes, and condition logs.
3. Ordinary Wear vs Chargeable Damage
Ordinary Wear (Generally No Charge)
Normal wear reasonably expected from proper use may not trigger deductions.
Examples may include:
- Minor wrinkle formation
- Light reversible wear
- Routine laundering impact
- Minor expected aging consistent with rental use
Chargeable Damage
Charges may apply for damage including but not limited to:
- Permanent staining
- Tears, rips, burns
- Broken closures/zippers
- Missing embellishments
- Structural garment damage
- Unauthorized tailoring or alterations
- Irreversible contamination
- Missing accessories
- Improper repairs by renter
4. Damage Assessment Tiers
Tier 1 — Minor Recoverable Damage
Examples:
- Spot cleaning
- Minor repair
- Replaceable missing accessory
Potential charge:
Cleaning or minor repair cost.
Tier 2 — Major Repairable Damage
Examples:
- Significant stains
- Repair-intensive tears
- Structural restoration required
Potential charge:
Repair/restoration costs and related handling costs.
Tier 3 — Replacement-Level Damage / Constructive Loss
Examples:
- Irreparable destruction
- Unauthorized alteration rendering item unusable
- Severe contamination
- Total loss event
Potential charge:
Up to replacement value, subject to applicable law.
5. Cleaning Charge Matrix
Extraordinary cleaning may incur charges where damage exceeds ordinary post-rental processing.

- Depreciation, where applicable
Platform may determine reasonable replacement valuation.
8. Security Deposit Application
Deposits may be:
Fully Refunded
If no applicable deductions arise.
Partially Applied
If deductions are less than deposit.
Fully Applied
If deductions equal or exceed deposit.
If Charges Exceed Deposit
If repair, restoration or replacement charges exceed the deposit:
Renter remains responsible for additional amounts due under Rental Terms.
Authorized payment methods may be charged where permitted.
9. Late Return Fee Framework
Late returns may trigger escalating charges such as:
- Additional rental-day charges
- Percentage penalties
- Deposit deductions
- Loss-event treatment for extreme non-return
Persistent non-return may be treated as loss.
10. Missing Components
Charges may apply for missing:
- Belts
- Dupattas
- Accessories
- Components supplied with rental
- Protective packaging where material
Component replacement costs may be assessed separately.
11. Evidence and Documentation
Assessment may rely on:
- Pre-rental condition records
- Return inspection records
- Photographs/video
- Repair invoices
- Vendor evaluations
- System logs
These may be used in resolving disputes.
12. Deposit Refund Timing
Deposit releases may occur after:
- Return intake
- Inspection completion
- Damage review (if needed)
Processing times may vary.
13. Dispute Procedure
Users disputing deductions must raise disputes promptly after notice.
Disputes should include supporting evidence where available.
Platform may review disputes in good faith.
Absent clear error, assessment determinations may stand.
14. Fraud, Abuse or Intentional Damage
Intentional damage, fraud, concealment or misuse may result in:
- Full recovery claims
- Deposit forfeiture where permitted
- Account suspension
- Additional legal remedies
15. Platform Discretion and Owner Rights
Where third-party owners provide inventory, platform may act on behalf of owners in assessing and recovering damage-related claims.
Owners retain compensation rights.
16. Examples of Potential Chargeable Events
May include:
Chargeable:
- Wine stain requiring restoration
- Torn seam due to misuse
- Missing accessory piece
- Unauthorized hemming
- Burn damage
Generally non-chargeable:
- Minor wrinkle
- Normal wear consistent with proper use

Nothing in this Policy limits rights or obligations under:
- Rental Terms
- Terms of Service
- Applicable law
